Education comprises the body of subject matter and planned learning experiences in the Health Professions course at RPTA. Designed to prepare students with the competencies needed to assist qualified health professionals in the field, this class delivers instruction and training in the diagnostic, therapeutic, preventative, restorative and rehabilitative care of patients in the health care facility, in the home and in the community.

In the class, students will:

  • Learn anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, communicable diseases and medical disorders
  • Practice in a simulated lab and learn to master required competencies in preparation for direct patient care
  • Learn employable skills and receive a limited amount of on-the-job training in a long-term care facility and a hospital
  • Qualify for nursing assistant certification

Entrance Requirements

1.Must be a high school junior or senior in good standing at their home school (academics, attendance, ect.).

2.Must meet state prerequsites for each course and possess skills in foundation courses.

3. Must complete the admission application and screening process, including a personal interview with the instructor.

4. Must demonstrate professional behavior in dress, grooming and attitude.

Riverbend Professional Technical Academy (RPTA) offers a elective course for high school juniors and seniors with an introduction into health occupations. North Idaho College (NIC) has an articulation agreement with RPTA offering dual credit, which transfers into an Allied Health Associate Degree program, Pharmacy tech, Physical Therapy Assistant or Health and Human Services.

This course is a one year program designed to expand on career and patient care information. Students will explore health careers in a job shadow assignment, learn entry level skills and expectations required to render direct and indirect health services to patients.

The Health Professions program at RPTA provides students with the necessary skills, motivation and professional attitudes for job placement at the entry level in the health care field.
